The country of Ireland, also known as the Emerald Isle, is known for its rolling green hills and mountains, ancient castles, open pastures, beautiful coastline, vibrant cities, and friendly locals. Ireland was first inhabited around 10,000 years ago. Since then, Ireland’s human history and culture has been rich in storytelling, the arts, and agriculture. Ireland is a member of the European Union and stands apart from the United Kingdom. Ireland is a parliamentary democracy, and its President is Michael Higgins.
