SPRING 2025 WEEKEND EXCURSIONS
WELCOME!
This spring as part of the Northeastern University Global Scholars program, we’ve planned an excursion for you and your peers to explore the beautiful Monterey Peninsula. This unique trip and experience will help you discover your surroundings and immerse yourself in the California coast.
On Saturday you will have the chance to learn about local marine life on land and at sea on a Whale Watching tour and during a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. On Sunday you will get to see iconic landmarks along the Monterey Peninsula’s coast on a 17 Mile Drive tour, and visit one of the area’s most popular beaches at Carmel-by-the-Sea!
We are offering the same trip on four different weekends in February and March. Learn about this trip below and then register for your preferred weekend. We can’t wait to meet and share Monterey you!

Weekend 1: Friday February 14 - Sunday February 16
Weekend 2: Friday February 21 - Sunday February 23

Friday: Traveling from Oakland to Monterey
Depart in the evening at 6:30 PM, arriving at the hotel for check in and relaxation time.
Saturday: Learn more about Monterey’s local flora and fauna - both on land and at sea!
The first part of this day will be spent on a Whale Watching Tour with Princess Monterey Whale Watching. After this, you will have the chance to have lunch at a restaurant of your choice on Old Fisherman’s Wharf before heading into Cannery Row to explore and visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. After this, we will head back to our hotel for the night where we will have dinner and an optional movie night!
Sunday: Explore the Monterey Peninsula and Carmel-by-the-Sea!
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before going on a scenic ride along 17 Mile Drive, where you will stop and explore at several famous lookout points and landmarks. After this, we will drive to Carmel Beach, where you can enjoy a provided picnic lunch on the beach or at one of the many greenspaces in the town. After lunch you will have free time to shop and explore in Carmel-by-the-Sea before it is time to return to campus.
Return to Oakland in the afternoon. Arriving by 4:00 PM.
