Designed for middle school students, this immersive program uses New York City as a living classroom.
Students experience the iconic New York they’ve imagined while going deeper into the neighborhoods, cultures, stories, arts, and communities that make the city extraordinary. From the Statue of Liberty and Times Square to immigrant stories, Broadway, community engagement, and the High Line, students discover how the people who have shaped New York continue to shape the city today.

This itinerary combines the New York experiences students are excited to see with deeper opportunities to understand the people and communities behind them.

A Program, Built to Be Customized
Day 1 | Welcome to New York City: From Street to Skyline
Arrive in New York, meet your EdOdyssey Program Leaders, and get oriented to the city.
Explore Midtown on foot, taking in Rockefeller Center and some of Manhattan’s most famous streets before seeing the city from above at Top of the Rock. End the day among the lights and energy of Times Square before gathering for a welcome dinner.

Day 2 | A City Built by people from everywhere: Immigration, Identity & the American Dream
Travel by ferry to Liberty Island and Ellis Island to explore the stories of millions of people who came to New York in search of a new life.
Continue to the Lower East Side and Tenement Museum, stepping into the stories of immigrant families who helped shape the city. Then explore the neighborhood today through its streets, food, shops, and cultures.

Day 3 | Community in Action: What Makes a City Strong
Spend the morning with a local community organization, learning about an issue facing New Yorkers and meeting people working to strengthen their community.
Take part in an age-appropriate, hands-on service experience before exploring the surrounding neighborhood through its food, public art, local businesses, and community spaces.
Reflect together on what students discovered about service, leadership, and the many ways people contribute to their communities.

Day 4 | New York Reinvents Itself: The High Line to Broadway
Explore how New York continually reinvents itself, starting at Chelsea Market and the High Line, where an abandoned elevated railway became one of the city’s most creative public spaces.
Continue through Chelsea and Hudson Yards before experiencing another defining part of New York culture: Broadway.
Go behind the scenes, meet a Broadway artist or theater professional, and finish the day with a live performance.

Day 5 | A City of Possibility: Central Park & Taking the Experience Home
Spend the final morning exploring Central Park, discovering how one of the world’s most famous urban parks creates space for recreation, nature, art, and community in the heart of Manhattan.
Gather for a closing reflection on what surprised students about New York, the people and communities they encountered, and what they’ll take home from the experience. Then begin the journey home with new perspectives, stronger friendships, and plenty of New York stories to share.
