Sonoma County Weekend Excursions
Discover two unique ecosystems of Northern California in one weekend! Our time in Sonoma County will be spent exploring the famous giant California Redwoods as well as the breathtaking California Coast. On Saturday you will head to Hendy Woods State Park where you will learn about the ecology of the Redwoods and local flora and fauna identification skills from a California State Parks expert while enjoying guided hikes through the park. On Sunday, you will have the chance to visit the California coast and explore the micro-ecosystems that coexist within Sonoma Coast State Park!

OPTION ONE - September 22 to September 24, 2023

Friday: Traveling from Oakland to Rohnert Park, CA
Depart in the evening at 7:00 PM, arriving at the hotel for check-in and relaxation time.
Saturday: Hendy Woods State Park Visit
This day will be spent being guided around Hendy Woods State Park by a California State Parks Ranger. Students will get to see the famous California Redwoods and learn about local flora and fauna identification.
Picnic-style lunch in the park.
Return to the hotel for dinner/relaxation time.
Weekends 2, 3, and 4 - Saturday:
This day will be spent exploring around the town of Sonoma. You will have the opportunity to visit and walk through the Sonoma Botanical Gardens, followed by a visit and guided tour at the historic Sonoma Mission, to learn about the origins of one of California's most famous towns from local experts.
Picnic-style lunch at the Botanical Gardens
Free time to explore downtown Sonoma
Return to the hotel for dinner and relaxation time.
Sunday: Visit the California Coast at Sonoma Coast State Park
Self-guided exploration at several sites in Sonoma Coast State Park.
Picnic-style lunch on the beach.
Return to Oakland by 3:00 PM.
